AMRITSAR: The former Akal Takht Jathedar Bhai Ranjit Singh has warned the Akhil Bhartiya Vidiyarthi Parishad ABVP and other Hindu hardliners organisations with dire consequences if they dare touch or harm a proud Sikh girl Gurmehar Kaur.
Jalandhar based Gurmehar Kaur, a Delhi University student, is currently in the news for raising a vital issue that, “It was not the Pakistan, but the war had killed her father”. Gurmehar’s father Mandeep Singh was martyred in the Kargil flare up between India and Pakistan.
Gurmehar’s logical and genuine argument had generated in-genuine reaction by Hindu hardliner and some of them had even threatened Gurmehar with heinous crimes like eliminating or raping her.
In a statement posted on social media Jathedar Ranjit Singh has said that Gurmehar Kaur had done no wrong in giving expression to the philosophy of Sikh Gurus, “Manas Ki Jaat Sabhe Eke Hi Pehchanvo”.
Bhai Ranjit Singh said that it was always the Sikhs who had shielded India from external aggressions and yet their contribution had always been undermined in the Hindu Rashtra – Hindustan.
He said that the entire Sikh community was stood like a rock behind Gurmehar Kaur. He warned all those who were giving threats to Gurmehar Kaur. “We will not spare anyone who dared touch or harm the respected and bold Sikh girl Gurmehar Kaur”, he warned and added that any attack on Gurmehar Kaur will be construed as handiwork of RSS and BJP and would be responded in a befitting manner at and appropriate time.
On the other hand, cricketer Virendra Sehwag and Bollywood actor Randeep Hooda, who illogically condemned Gurmehar Kaur are receiving hostile response on social media sites from well-reasoned youngsters from all across the globe.
In a statement Famous actor Nassirudin Shah has described Gurmehar Kaur a bold girl, and has condemned Sehwag and Hooda for their insensitive remarks about her.
